Moon Woman Story

Rachael CrowBlog

The woman in the Moon loved the Earth, she loved to gaze upon all the beauty of the Earth- the seas, the deserts, the forests, even the beauty of a volcano erupting….all of these things were so exciting to Moon Woman, for the moon was so bare, she longed to have seas, grasses, mountains and trees.

She would wish and wish and wish that she could one day walk upon the Earth, just as the humans did. But she knew she had a job to do; she pushed and pulled the tides of the seas, she changed the ions in the atmosphere when she was in her full and dark states. She was needed to wax and wane so that the women of the earth could ebb and flow…..but still, how she longed to visit the Earth and feel her soils, sands, rivers, seas, winds and rains. She sighed to herself, knowing it would never be possible.

One day, when Moon Woman was just a silver sliver of a crescent moon, Father Sky granted her wish and gave permission for her to visit the Earth in human form for just one week, the week when Moon Woman turned from Dark to half moon she could visit the Earth!

Moon Woman was overjoyed! She couldn’t wait to run in the long grasses, climb a tree, bathe in a river and feel the wind rush by. And so, as the crescent moon disappeared into the darkness, Moon Woman magically stepped out and set her dainty moon white toes on to the Earth.

But when she looked around Moon Woman was dismayed to see so much destruction of her beautiful Earth; she wanted to rip up the tarmacked roads that stopped the Earth from breathing, to block up the chimneys and pipes that forever pumped pollution into the air and the water, to shout “STOP” at the top of her lungs so the humans would stop the wars, the fighting, the violence and all of the hurt. She sat and she sobbed for the misery of humanity.

As she sat, she heard a voice, the voice of the ancient ones, the Stone Peoples, for the stones have been here since the beginning of time and have witnessed all of the stories of the Earth.

“Sister Moon, dry your tears, for all will be well. Yes, the people have forgotten their Mother, but some are beginning to remember Her. Have faith dear one, for you are part of the remembering, when you shine and wax and wane and are in your dark shadow, you are awakening the women to their own inner Moon Time and their own inner seasons and they are remembering how beautiful and precious our Earth Mother is. Those women, who remember, will teach their daughters, and their daughters daughters, so the future generations will remember. These women and their daughters will begin to say “NO!” to the ways of war, violence and hurt. They will love and protect their Mother and one another. A new day is dawning, a new way of being is coming for these earth children, it is coming Sister Moon for we Stone Peoples have heard the prophecies. You and me, and all of the guardians of the Earth are playing our part. The Spirits of the land are whispering ancient stories of love, unity, family, of celebrations and gatherings under the full moon, of stillness and peace under the dark moon, the ancient magic is stirring and those who are open to it can feel the changes coming. So, Sister Moon, return to the sky and shine with all your might, awaken the women, send prayers and blessings for humanity and the Earth and know….all will be well”

So Moon Woman dried her tears, she bent and kissed the ancient stone, she gave her thanks for all its wisdom. And she did return to the sky to shine, but only after she had dipped her toes in to rivers and seas, climbed trees, run up mountains, squelched her feet in mud, danced on the beach, felt the cold wind in her hair, then, and only then, did she return to her rightful place in the Moon and continue her part in awakening humanity, shining her brightest upon the women and the girl children of the Earth to help them remember.
