16″ Red Thunderbird Medicine Drum, Thunderbird Wood Snake Crow Raven Drum, Shamanic Drum, Medicine Drum, Deer hide naturally dyed, Dark Moon Drum. Price includes a red fabric drum bag.
Naturally dyed using the harvest of bark, petals, fruits, herbs and berries.
Made in ceremony with prayers and blessings at my home in under the Preseli Hills, close to the quarry where the Bluestones for Stone Henge come from and Pentre Ifan standing stones, West Wales.
Hide was dyed over the 6 planet alignment – Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, birthed and completed over the Aquarius new moon/ Chinese New Year- welcomnig in wood snake energy. This planetary parade was a powerful energetic moment, aligning our own vibrations with the harmony of the universe.
Each planet holds a unique frequency- Venus radiates love and beauty. Mars fuels passion and courage. Jupiter expands abundance and wisdom. Saturn teaches discipline and growth. Uranus sparks breakthroughs and change. Neptune deepens intuition and dreams.
Wood Snake, Yang energy, symbolises mystery, intelligence, charm, and determination, but it can also be stubborn and prone to jealousy. Complementing this is the Yin element of Wood, which fosters resilience, unwavering focus, and the energy of growth. Together, the Wood Snake embodies a profound invitation for personal transformation, groundedness, and adaptability.
When birthing this drum I asked for the blessings of the ancestors of this land, the strength of the Welsh dragons and Thunderbird energy – very powerful medicine of holding the energies of air and earth, heaven/cosmos/magic balanced with 3D, earth, our humanness, our bodies. The mystical mythical Thunderbird holds the energies of Power, Strength and Magic.
This drums message-
“I am The Storm. As the planets align I bring change and transformation.
Like the pheonix from the flames, what has fallen will rise.
With the starry heart beat within reminding us all- we are held by the Mother.
All is well, All is as it is meant to be, perfect in it’s imperfection.
Hold the imprint of the New. I hold the blueprint of Life.
I AM the GOLD print of strength.
I am your compassion along this road of change.
Place your steps along the Red Road of the Great Mothers who have paved the way- knowing you are guided, expected and all is well. ”
Handmade medicine drum (16 inches)- made from naturally dyed wild deer hide with traditional cross bound handle using a 5 laced method instead of 4- the number 5 bringing the Thunderbird energy- Magic, Change and Freedom! The drum is tied with 5 knots.
It comes with a handmade drum beater made with hazel wood, red fabric, stuffed with local alpaca wool, and a medicine pouch containing a dried rose (from our last womens circle altar), jasper and the “umbilical knot” of the drum, the pouch is decorated with ‘Thunderbird Feathers’ and an exquisite piece of pottery from Studio Underwood (see photo).
Hoop is Rosewood and the hide is deer, the beat of this drum carries the spirit of animal and tree and their energy blend together with yours to create special journeys for you.

By the way…. I don’t make drum videos- playing the drum for the first time wakes it up and i believe this is the drum owners priority! See my YouTube video about it

I made my first drum over 20 years ago and after reading Layne Redmond’s book “When the Women were Drummers” I felt guided to create drums for people to play and connect to the heartbeat of our Earth Mother.
Hides mostly come from within the United Kingdom and are either from culled wild horses/ponies/deer/stags or animals that have naturally died. The hide is a waste product so by using it we are honouring the animal. As a life long vegetarian I’ve wrestled with the ethics for a long time, in the end my calling to make drums and bring us to the heartbeat of our Mother was too strong! I source my materials as ethically as possible, supporting local crafts people.
Deer’s medicine includes gentleness, the ability to listen, grace and appreciation for the beauty of balance, power of gratitude and giving, ability to sacrifice for the higher good, connection to the woodland goddess, alternative paths to a goal. Deer teaches us how powerful it is to have a gentle demeanour, to exert keen observation and sensitivity. Deer’s are in tune with nature and all it comprises. They are sacred carriers of peace and show us how to open our hearts and love unconditionally . Deer teaches us to touch the hearts and minds of wounded beings who are in our lives, to gently nudge them in right direction, with the love that comes from deer.
The rosewood spirit is one of strength and vulnerability that signals a time of inner conflict. The name rosewood was inspired by its sweet rosy scent and deep red colour that speaks to our heart. Rosewood is encouraging us to listen to what is tugging deep in our heart. What does our heart want us to hear, to know, to sense? Now is a time to act, based on our heart’s true desire. Vulnerability is an important lesson that rosewood teaches. To some this is seen as a sign of weakness, but being vulnerable is also a sign of true inner strength. Vulnerability, even though it may hurt, does help us to stay openhearted especially when life gets difficult.
Red Jasper- traditionally used as protection against snakes and other poisons, it’s grounding and anchoring, brings focus and aids healing.
